Geboren zwischen 1045 und 1050 in Solero bei Asti (Piemonte). Gefördert von Papst Gregor VII. (PND118541862) , 1080 Bischof von Segni (Lazio), 1082 als Kardinal bezeugt. 1087 unter Papst Victor II. (PND11943492X) Bibliothekar der römischen Kirche, enger Berater Papst Urbans II. (PND118763873) und dessen Begleiter in Frankreich und Cluny 1095/96. 1102 Profeß in Montecassino , 1107-1111 Abt; † 1123 Juli 18 in Segni , 1183 September 5 von Papst Lucius III. (PND100952313) heiliggesprochen (Jaffé, Reg. pont., 14912). Das theologische Werk (Bibelkommentare, Homilien) wurde zuerst herausgegeben von M. Marchesius, S. Brunonis Astensis opera, Venetiis 1651 wiederholt in Maxima bibl., 20 (1677) 1308-1812 ; erneut von B. Bruni, Bruno Astensis episcopus Signensis, Opera aucta et adnotationibus illustrata, Romae 1780-1791, 2 voll. abgedruckt in Migne, PL, 164-165 .
